A true people person, Andrew Emmans joins Gifford Carr as Head of Business Development. Making his debut in the world of insurance he brings over 17 years of entrepreneurial success to lead our sales team.
Andrew is driven to develop talent and help teams crush their goals. He started his entrepreneurial journey with a lemonade stand at the age of 6 and hasn’t stopped since most recently building tech and construction-based businesses serving communities across Ontario. To launch his business career, Andrew was a two-time entrant of the Wes Nicol Business Plan Competition named after the Ottawa entrepreneur and Carleton alumnus, the late Wesley Nicol. His businesses went through Canada’s EY Entrepreneur Of The Year program 3 times, from 2009 to 2011. A Carleton University alumni, Andrew has always been active in the business community sitting on boards, including the Ontario retirement communities association, Corporate housing providers association board, and CCHPA charity committee coordinator, past president of an Ontario commercial condo board, and on the advisory board for Algonquin College interior decorating and design program. Andrew is an experienced asset on the team at Gifford Carr. He was awarded GOHBA industry representative of the year from 2011 to 2013, his companies won the people’s choice award, and best marketing campaign among others over the same period. Andrew was a recipient of Ottawa Business Journal and Ottawa Board of Trade’s top Forty Under 40 in 2015 and was an Ottawa Business Achievement Award finalist at Best Ottawa Business Awards — also known as The BOBs.
Andrew founded the For the Love of Youth (FLY) charity in collaboration with Mac Suites and the Children’s Aid Foundation to help the kids in the program transition to professional adulthood and help set them up for success. He’s worked with Habitat for Humanity and Helping with Furniture (HWF) to build out initiatives with his former businesses including a furniture donation program for local women’s shelters.
When not in work mode, you can find Andrew on the water. A self-proclaimed die-hard salmon angler, he is on a team that competes on the lake Ontario pro circuit. You may not be surprised then to hear one of his ultimate goals is to fish in every waterbody in the world, catch and release though. A big family man, Andrew values time (and looks forward to more travel) with his wife and kids.
