Charity and Non-Profit Organizations
Protecting the work your community depends on
Charities and non-profits carry every exposure a business does, along with several that are entirely their own. Boards made up of volunteers, funding tied to grants and donations, programs that put staff and volunteers in direct contact with the people they serve. We work with organizations to build coverage around how the work actually gets done, so that a single claim does not become the reason a program stops.
What is Charity and Non-Profit Insurance?
Charity and non-profit insurance is coverage built around the specific exposures of mission-driven organizations, including liability arising from programs and services, the personal exposure carried by directors and officers, damage to owned or leased property, and the risk attached to donor and client information.

Frequently asked questions
Find answers to common questions about charity and non-profit organization insurance.
We run only a few events each year. Do we need coverage for those?
Events introduce exposures that day-to-day operations do not, including third-party attendees, rented venues, and alcohol service. Some are picked up by an existing policy, and some require a separate placement, which is worth confirming before the date is set.
Our board members are volunteers. Do they still need directors and officers coverage?
Yes. Directors and officers can be held personally responsible for decisions made on behalf of an organization, including employment matters, financial oversight, and regulatory compliance. Serving without pay does not remove that exposure, and in many cases personal assets are what is at stake.
We depend on volunteers to deliver our programs. Are they covered?
Usually, though it depends on how the policy defines a volunteer and what the volunteer is doing. Liability arising from a volunteer’s actions and injury to the volunteer themselves are handled under separate coverages, and both are worth reviewing together.
