Gifford Carr donates $28,328.00 in the fight against cancer in Ottawa

On World Cancer Day, February 05, we announced the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation (ORCF) was our charity of choice for 2022.

With the impact on our team past and present, for those who have and are currently fighting, along with the involvement of our leadership team in local fundraising initiatives – it goes without saying this cause is near and dear to our hearts. We kicked this initiative off strong community with a (virtual) Coffee + Conversations where our team got to connect with Paula Muldoon, VP of Development and Community Engagement of the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation. Paula shared insights on what the foundation does to support our local community battling cancer and invited cancer hub practitioners and medical experts to help educate our team on where the funds raised go. Word to the wise, if you host a coffee and conversations with Paula and the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation team, keep a box or two of Kleenex on hand. It’s a very moving (and motivating) morning.

Throughout the year, our team participated in and supported fundraising events like Take a Swing at Cancer and the Cancer Champions Breakfast. Our insurer partners at Economical even matched our donation for the Cancer Champions Breakfast! Did you know that 80% of the funding for trials (and all the work that goes into preparing and building trials) does not actually come from government grants? It comes from charitable giving. And initiatives like the Cancer Champions breakfast are one of the ways the talented doctors in our local community are creating seriously game-changing advancements in treatments for cancer. Our team ran a bottle drive, shout out to our Sudbury team for truly taking home the win – they alone raised over $500, in bottles and cans! We will be ringside at the upcoming Fight for the Cure – all in support of this impactful cause in our community and the research they are doing in the fight against cancer.

Dr. Rebecca Auer, Scientist, Professor, and Surgical Oncologist said something at the recent Cancer Champions breakfast – and it stuck with us, “The only limit is our imagination”. To hear medical specialists looking at the fight with this lease was truly inspiring. We look forward to hearing about their research and progress!

The events team at the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation was able to join in our 2022 edition of #GCConnect where we ran a 50/50 draw (congrats Lorna, and her unreal 50/50 win reaction – so well deserved as the leader of the Sudbury bottle drive!). All of this lead up to a very proud and impactful announcement.

We are proud to share that on September 22, 2022, we presented Michael Maidment, CEO of the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation, and his team with a $28,328 donation supporting the local community cancer hub and game-changing research being done here – in our hometown.
