Boasting over 30 years of experience, Bernie brings a vast range of knowledge to his role as Branch Manager at Gifford Carr. Kicking-off his broker career in 1994, Bernie concentrated on risk management and insurance placement for the mining industry, and he hasn’t looked back since. Over the course of his career, Bernie has specialized in the energy and mining sectors, giving him a uniquely in-depth understanding of this niche customer profile.
In his capacity as Branch Manager, Bernie is responsible for developing industry specific programs for underserved market segments, as well as driving new sales and mentoring our next generation of insurance professionals. Bernie strives to provide timely, and customized risk management and insurance solutions to our business clients. He is passionate about continued learning and can effectively translate complex insurance concepts into relatable examples. Bernie thrives on building strong relationships, and thoroughly enjoys the advisory role he plays for both clients and colleagues.
Donating much of his time outside of work, Bernie is also an active member of the wider insurance and mining communities in Northern Ontario. As Facilitator for the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO) for the past 15 years, Bernie has delivered seminars to thousands of brokers in RIBO-accredited programs at the IBAO School. Since 2006, Bernie is Finance Chair of the Canadian Diamond Drilling Association (CDDA) since 2006, and has held leadership roles with the Professional Development Committee Member of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) Northern Gateway Branch, as Social Chair, Professional Development Committee (CIM National Committee) and recently took on the role of Vice-Chair for 2023. an organization he has been affiliated with for the past 15 years. In 2006, Bernie was presented with the IBAO Award of Merit in recognition of his dedication and service to the industry.
Outside of work, Bernie can be found tending to his yard or enjoying a round of golf in the summer months. Come winter he hits the rink with his recreational hockey team – they may be called the “Old Timers”, but they are young at heart!
